Lamar Small, CFA

Founder and Managing Partner of Silver Beach Capital Partners, a private investment firm focused on the acquisition of lower middle market businesses. He is also Senior Advisor to Nine Dean, a holding company. A native of Benton Harbor, Michigan, he brings over 15 years of investment experience and six years of engineering expertise to acquiring and operating small businesses.

 

Prior to founding Silver Beach Capital Partners, Lamar served as an Investment Director at the UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust, where he led investment selection, due diligence, and portfolio management for an $8.5 billion private credit portfolio. Earlier in his career, he held roles as a Senior Hedge Fund Researcher at Mercer, a Quantitative Modeling Associate at Credit Risk Management, and an Industrials Equity Analyst at NCM Capital.

 

Lamar began his career in engineering, spending six years managing international projects and designing components for leading automotive OEMs and suppliers. He holds an MBA in Investment Management from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kentucky, where he also minored in Japanese Studies. He is a CFA Charterholder and an active member of UNC’s Investment Management Action Council.

 

Fluent in Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese, Lamar has lived and worked in both Japan and Brazil, with a total of three years of international experience. Outside of work, Lamar is an avid speed chess player (with an unofficial rating above 2400), enjoys drumming, and has traveled to over 57 countries. Lamar is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated.
